Deaf contestant Nyle DiMarco cannot hear any music at all so his journey on Dancing with the Stars has been inspiring and amazing. On May 9, we got a small taste of what he hears while he is dancing — that is, nothing. Watch the “silent dance” right here.
In the beginning of the episode, Nyle, 26, and partner Peta Murgatroyd were told they were safe! What a relief!
The first dance of the night was their Paso Doble to the song “Victorious” by Panic! At The Disco. For a few brief seconds, everyone watched in silence, in awe and amazement, as Nyle danced front and center with 4 troupe dancers.
The judges absolutely loved it. Len Goodman praised him: “Nyle, you’re amazing.” Bruno Tonioli said: “I thought that was mind blowing. You really have a special power. The silent sequence was like watching five men dancing to the beat of a single heart. It’s one of those moments, a Dancing With The Stars classic, that no one will ever forget.”
Carrie Ann Inaba was literally in tears! They got a score of 29 out of 30!
Watch the powerful moment right here:
It’s so emotional and powerful! I wish the silent sequence was longer! It really is so amazing what he is doing! Peta was also in tears after their performance.

It’s also so insane to think about how he keeps time when dancing with other people, like he did in the Team Up challenge. Not only did he dance with his partner Peta, but he danced with male pro Keo Motsepe and fellow contestant Jodie Sweetin. The team dance earned him two 10s from judges Len and Carrie Ann. Carrie Ann commented: “That was not an easy dance. That was engaging to watch. What impressed me the most — the way you were so in sync! You guys were like the Rockettes but a super sexy version!”
Nyle is truly inspiring and so enjoyable to watch. I hope he makes the finals!
