“Do you think you make better art when you’re happy with your love life or when you’re not?” Zayn was asked in his interview. “If you’re in a really good place, you can write a really good, upbeat song,” Zayn told Complex. “When you’re in a sh*t place you can write a downbeat f*cking ballad! [Laughs.] That’s just the way it is. But I feel like you can draw good creative things from both.”
Zayn broke down the ratio of how many love songs will be on the album, as opposed to those “downbeat f*cking ballads”! “There’s a good ratio of both. There’s a lot of falling in love and a lot of falling out of love. It’s probably 60/40, falling out of love.”

Yep, falling out of love with Perrie! Zayn and Perrie had a nasty broken engagement in spring 2015, when Zayn called things off almost immediately after leaving One Direction. Since then, he’s fallen head over heels for Gigi.
Both situations seem like great material for a new album, but the reason that he probably shied away from Gigi ballads is the fact that he wants to keep their private life private! “I try to keep [our public and private lives] very separate. I try to, as much as I can. But there’s only so much you can do.”
HollywoodLifers, are you surprised that Zayn sings so much about Perrie on his album? Tell us in the comments!
