Delonte West, 32, was once a star player for multiple teams over the course of his career, including the Boston Celtics, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Dallas Mavericks. Sadly, fans are now speculating that he might be homeless after he was spotted looking worse for wear in a fast food parking lot — despite making approximately $14 million playing ball.
These new pictures of Delonte West are heartbreaking, especially for those who were — and still are — fans of his basketball career. Delonte was allegedly found looking frail and seeming weary near a Jack In The Box parking lot in Houston, Texas, reports the New York Post.
As the above photos show, Delonte looks unkempt wearing multiple layers, including a hospital gown. Although you can’t see it in the pictures, he was reportedly not wearing any shoes as he wandered around the streets alone.
When the fan approached him to ask if he was, in fact, Delonte, the basketball player replied, “I used to be, but I’m not about that life anymore.” When the fan asked for more details about what happened to him, he simply told her, “Life.” So sad.
The fan even asked Delonte to take a picture, which he agreed to, but unfortunately he couldn’t keep his eyes open for the shot which can be seen on TMZ.
For those of you unfamiliar with Delonte, he started playing professional ball in 2004 but ended his career in 2012 playing for the Dallas Mavericks, but was released at the start of his second season with them after being suspended for two arguments. He was also reportedly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but consistently disputed the diagnosis throughout his career.
Our thoughts are with Delonte during this difficult time. Hopefully his friends and family will intervene soon.
