‘Downton Abbey’ Recap: Marigold Gets Kidnapped

A kidnapping rocks Downton as Marigold goes missing and wedding drama brews as Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Carson can’t agree on where to get married.

Lady Mary stirs up major drama at Downton when she takes Marigold to the Drewes’ farm — and much to Lady Edith’s despair. Unfortunately she was off in London managing her new editor when the trip went down and did little to stop the plans, for fear of her judgmental sister finding out about her secret child. Since Edith couldn’t be present, Cora accompanied Mary and the children. Both Edith’s aunt and her mother think it’s about time they clue in Lady Mary. For someone so quick-witted and sharp, I’m shocked she still hasn’t realized that Marigold is her sister’s daughter.

Anna is still crying in corners over her miscarraige situation and confides in Lady Mary, who decides to bring her to the same doctor she saw when she was had trouble getting pregnant. Anna says no one has been as kind to her as Lady Mary has been and they reminisce over Mary’s sexy secrets and how Anna is her closest confidante. They spend the day in London, but Anna decides not to tell Mr. Bates about the visit just yet — she doesn’t want to get his hopes off.

Lord Grantham offers to decorate the servant’s hall for Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes’ wedding, but Mrs. Hughes doesn’t want to feel like a servant on her special day — hey, we can’t say we blame her! She pokes fun at Mr. Carson for his affinity for Lady Mary. Meanwhile, Lady Mary, the ultimate meddler, (she’s definitely the Dowager’s granddaughter!), tells Mr. Carson they must marry in the estate — and in whichever room they like. He clearly doesn’t have the heart to tell her otherwise — oh no! He’s definitely in the dog house with his bride-to-be. Who knew Mrs. Hughes could be such a bridezilla? She reminds Mr. Carson that the wedding is the bride’s day — and she does not want to get married at the Downton estate. Even when these two argue they’re still the cutest couple ever.

With all the news of downsizing in the air, Thomas goes on a job interview. He seems to be in an even darker place than usual.

Lady Mary and Lady Edith may not get along, but they’re both working progressive, working girls. Lady Mary continues to assume the role of the agent since Branson has left, and it seems to be an adjustment for everyone involved. She organizes the livestock show and Downton wins — but this brings Marigold even closer to the Drewes…and Lady Edith is not happy about the news.

Meanwhile, Lady Edith is also hard at work, managing the paper and dealing with a headstrong editor — it sounds like he doesn’t like taking orders from a woman.

Marigold goes missing at the pig show and it becomes clear that Mrs. Drewe is the culprit. Mr. Drewe decides it would be best if he moves away and returns Marigd to Edith, safe and sound.

While we understand Edith’s concerns, it’s definitely time for her to come clean to Mary. After all, she’s no stranger to entertaining suitors — she really isn’t in a place to judge. Who knows, maybe it could bring them closer together?
