Rafael Amaya: Mexican Actor Hospitalized After Reported Drug Overdose

Rafael Amaya, a Latin actor, was taken to a hospital in Mexico on Oct. 27, following a reported drug overdose. Is he doing okay? Here is what we know. Rafael Amaya, 38, was hospitalized in an intensive care unit in Mexico City on Oct. 27, suffering from tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate), as well as reported drug intoxication. The actor, best known for his role on the telenovela, El Señor del los Cielos (on which he plays a drug lord), took to Twitter two days after the scary incident to cryptically declare he had "come back from the dead." What is Rafael's current state?

Rafael was reportedly rushed to Hospital Espanol around 4 on the morning of the 27th, where he was treated in a restricted area for tachycardia and a reported drug overdose, according to the Latin Times. He reportedly began responding to treatments around 2 pm that afternoon, waking up and beginning to eat.

Rafael took to Twitter on Oct. 29 to write a message in Spanish which translates to something like, “Coming back from the dead,” which is somewhat unnerving. He did not provide any further detail on his current state, either. However, Rafael’s bosses at El Señor del los Cielos gave a statement to People Espanol in which they said Rafael was, thankfully, doing “fine,” adding that he was taking “a well-deserved vacation” following 11 months straight of shooting the drama.

While Rafael recovers, the series, which is now in its fourth season, has gone on temporary hiatus, and will resume when Rafael is well enough, according to Contact Music. The show, one of Telemundo network’s most popular, is expected to return at a yet to be announced date in 2016.

We are sending Rafael all the positive energy in the world on his journey to recovery.
