Larry Hernandez, 38, made his first court appearance on Friday, October 23 in South Carolina after being arrested September 30 for a horrifying alleged assault; the judge ruled that the Larrymania star could be released on a $200,000 cash bond, with his passport revoked. His alleged victim and his family are livid with the news.
“They kidnapped him, they beat him…He wants justice done because we do not want there to be another report that, instead of kidnapping, says murder,” said Alejandro Andrade, the brother of Larry’s alleged victim Jose Andrade. This is a daunting contrast from what Larry and his family are maintaining about the incident: the assert that Larry is completely innocent, and that any allegations that say otherwise are slanderous!
“He is a very good person,” Eleazar Ceniceros, Larry’s stepfather, told Telemundo. “I cannot believe that they have done this to my son.” The Larrymania Facebook page and website have been highly active since Larry’s arrest, posting at length about Larry’s situation — and even sharing a letter that Larry wrote himself to fans from prison.
The piece, aptly titled “Larry Hernandez sends a message to his fans from jail,” shared a bit of insight into his feelings while sitting in jail, but explained that the details of the case couldn’t be shared with a trial pending.
“As you well know, I am a person who has always been honest and hard-working, showing my face in any situation,” Larry said. “That is why I am asking you to be patient. As soon as I can I will respond and clarify any doubts about it. They are slanderous lies, as time will tell.”
Larry was accused of kidnapping and assault when Larry and a concert promoter in Newberry, South Carolina allegedly got in a spat over payment; Larry received $14,000 for a show at an ice rink, and he wanted $30,000, according to the Newberry police. Jose is a friend of the promotor, and drove him to a hotel where Larry was waiting to be paid. Larry and two associates allegedly told the promoter they would hold Jose until they received the money.
“The complainant stated that when (the promoter) left, the subject (Hernandez) and two unknown subjects wrapped the complainant in clear plastic wrap and started to strike him in the face and body then threw him into a brick wall,” the report says. He was held in the hotel room against his will, and finally freed when the promoter returned with the cash.
