Miley Cyrus, 22, had many memorable moments during her Video Music Awards hosting stint on Aug. 30, and her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, were on hand to support their daughter from the audience. So, you can imagine how they felt when Nicki Minaj, 32, shouted the now-iconic, “What’s good, Miley?” throwing major shade in front of the thousands in the stadium, (as well as 5 million who watched at home). Honestly, the looks on Miley’s parents’ faces say it all. Watch the cringe-worthy video!
Towards the top of the show, Nicki won the award for best Hip-hop video. After giving her usual acceptance speech, Nicki threw it back to Miley so she could move the show along– however she did it with a vengeance.
“Now back to this b–ch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press,” Nicki said, motioning towards Miley. “Miley, what’s good?”
As we can see in the below clip, Miley’s parents watched onward from the audience, and found the entire altercation to be just as awkward as we all did. The massive cringe on Tish’s face pretty much speaks for all of us.
To get you up to speed, the “press” which Nicki was referring to was an extensive New York Times interview Miley did prior to the big show, in which she discussed Nicki’s outburst following her snub for Video of the Year. “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind,” said Miley. “It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don’t have to start this pop star against pop star war. It became Nicki Minaj and Taylor in a fight, so now the story isn’t even on what you wanted it to be about. Now you’ve just given E! News “Catfight! Taylor and Nicki Go at It.”
Do you think Miley’s parents had the right reaction to Nicki’s diss?
