Alison Parker‘s memory will live on and her boyfriend, Chris Hurst, wants the world to know they shared a “rare” kind of love. The 24-year-old WDBJ reporter had been brutally shot and killed on the morning of Aug. 26 and somehow her boyfriend managed to find the strength to speak to CNN and tell the world about their relationship.
Alison’s boyfriend, Chris said some very poignant things about Alison in his first-ever interview after her murder: “Her family remains strong, I am trying to find the strength that she always said I had inside of me … she told me all the time she loved me until the ends of the earth and that she felt safe with me. I’m so saddened that there was nothing that could have been done to keep her safe, I truly believe that.” You can watch the full CNN interview here.
He also showed a photo album of their 9-month-relationship that Alison had made it for their six-month-anniversary. “It was a love story that I think is I was privileged and honored to have had for only nine months. It was not a long relationship but we were betrothed. We wanted to get married.” He also said that they had just moved in together and were excited for the future. He also said he had begun saving for an engagement ring.
“She had told me and her parents told me last night that I was the love of her life and she was the love of my life,” Chris said. “The love we had was so rare … and I want everyone out there to know that it’s possible to get that love even if it only lasts for nine months and that has given me the strength to carry on … she was fierce … she was tenacious. She had unflinching confidence in what she wanted to do. She knew what her goals were and that was to be in TV news.”
Chris also spoke about Alison’s cameraman, Adam Ward, who was killed too and also talked about his relationship with WDBJ employee, Melissa Ott: “It really is … our love story I think, is just like Adam and Melissa’s. Adam was the best boyfriend and fiance I could ever imagine, way better than me. His spontaneity to show his love, going the extra mile to prove his love to Melissa was something I have never seen before. And the way he proposed to her was elaborate and well-executed. They were going to be a wonderful married couple … he always made Melissa feel special.”
Melissa took to Facebook and posted this incredibly devastating message: “Today, my entire world was flipped upside down. Starting new adventures with my fiance, new jobs, a new city. Getting married, having a family, buying a home. Thats now taken. Im not ok. And I wont be for a long time. But the enormous outpour of love and support from so many of you near and far is so much appreciated … Adam, I will never find a man so happy, selfless, protective, funny, or charming like you. You were the one. You understood me. My soulmate. I will always love you. Please watch over me and keep me strong.”
