Cara Delevingne, 23, has been killing it on the big screen. She totally cleaned up at The Teen Choice Awards for her role in Paper Towns.  With her acting career taking off, it makes sense that she’d want to focus more on film and less on fashion. But it turns out Cara’s reason for quitting modeling is more complex than that. We’ve got the scoop on how Kendall Jenner, 19, got her to shut down her modeling career. To hear more about Cara Delevingne, head over to iTunes and download the latest HollywoodLife podcast for free!

Cara could very well be this generation’s Kate Moss, so walking away from a career as huge as hers, sounds kind of crazy. But not if that career is causing mental anguish — which is exactly what Cara says modeling has been doing to her. No wonder her BFF, Kendall, has been telling her to quit. A source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY, “Her friends are very supportive. They think she’s doing the right thing. Kendall has been one of her biggest fans. She and her whole family pushed Cara to make the jump and quit modeling in order to focus on acting.”

So just what did Kendall and her famous family tell Cara to help her pull the plug on her modeling career? Our source says, “They told her she should believe in herself the way they believe in her. Kate Hudson was another person that encouraged Cara to put all her focus on acting. She gave her a lot of confidence in herself and her talent.” As much as we loved Cara on the catwalk, we agree that she should put it behind her if it causes her pain.

Cara Delevingne Was ‘Constantly On Edge’ During Modeling Career

Cara got incredibly candid with The Times and recently opened about the toll modeling took on her. “I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge,” she explained. “It’s a a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse.”

Besides being physically and mentally exhausting, Cara revealed that the she also felt sexually exploited during her early years of modeling.  “I am a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick,” she said. “It’s horrible and it’s disgusting. You start when you are really young and you get subjected to… not great stuff.” How horrible! We think Kendall was being a great friend when she told Cara to walk away.
