Even though in the promo for season 11 of The Bachelorette, Kaitlyn Bristowe says she made a “huge mistake” by having sex with a contestant, she’s now explaining that it was the timing of the hook up that she regrets — but not at all the physical contact. And that brings up a way bigger issue: why should she regret having sex on the show while she’s dating? The show is supposed to be all about finding and falling in love, and she’s right: a huge part of that is physical. Plus, what about the double standard on The Bachelor?
“I don’t think it was a mistake, the decision I made. I think the timing probably wasn’t the best, just because, I mean, there are other relationships developing, but just the timing wasn’t the best,” Kaitlyn, 30, told E! about sleeping with one of the contestants on the show.
She also went on to explain “the world we live in,” adding that “the Kardashians talk about sex on the show all the time.” So it’s a big deal now because it’s something we haven’t really seen on The Bachelorette. Usually we can assume it happened in the fantasy suite, but even then it was kept hush-hush. I give Kaitlyn credit for admitting it after doing it — and admitting it to the other men, knowing they deserved to know.
Plus, a relationship isn’t a relationship without the intimacy and the physical attraction. I’m not saying it’s necessary to fall in love, but if you’re not sure if you’re physically attracted to someone, that changes everything.
It’s really insane to me that Kaitlyn is getting so much hate about having sex. We also have to point out the major double standard going on here. Anyone who has followed along with the franchise from the beginning (and will admit it), will agree that on The Bachelor, it is assumed that most of the men do hook up with some of the girls. The difference: they hide it well, and they were men.
So does that make Kaitlyn the villain for being a woman and doing it? Or for admitting it while the others just hit it better? In my eyes, she did nothing wrong, and I hope that she finds love in the end!
