Since Fifty Shades of Grey has grossed $528 million worldwide (and counting) following its Valentine’s Day release, stars Dakota Johnson, 24, and Jamie Dornan, 32, are going to be receiving a hefty pay increase for their work in the franchise’s future films. The two were paid a relatively modest $250,000 for the first movie (relative being the key phrase), but that will basically be chump change when compared with what they’re going to make for the second and third films!
Well, this could certainly buy up a nice red room.
As was to be expected, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie has made a ton of money at the box office– like, a ton— and the stars at the center of the erotic flick are demanding that their salaries reflect that. So, how much more will the actors be making for the next two films?
“They will try to renegotiate for seven-figure raises for Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed,” a source told THR. “It was a very basic franchise starter deal… Look at Twilight and Hunger Games, and that’s where it’s heading.”
Fifty Shades has already made more than the first Twilight film ($392.6 million in 2008) and is on track to potentially make more than the first Hunger Games ($691 million in 2012), too. While pay increases for Jamie and Dakota are basically inevitable, one of the film’s producers, Dana Brunetti, says that the sequels’ budgets won’t drastically increase due to their pay.
“That was the great thing about this film — we knew we were going to be able to make stars,” Dana said. “Now it’s their opportunity to get paid on other projects. It’s been a breakout role for both of them. I’m sure they are getting tons of offers on other things.”
