Cowardly Lion: Original Costume From ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Up For Auction

Step aside ruby slippers, there is a hot new item up for sale. The original Cowardly Lion costume from the legendary movie 'Wizard Of Oz' has gone up for auction -- and if you want it, it will surely break your bank. Burt Lahr’s iconic Cowardly Lion costume is being auctioned off on Nov. 24, but at what price? The authentic piece of movie history is ready to find a new home and with the holidays just around the corner, who wouldn't want to own a piece of history.

Famous ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Costume Up For Auction

You too could be king of the forest now! The Bonhams auction house is set to auction off the original Cowardly Lion costume from in the 1939 film Wizard Of Oz, on Nov. 24.

The costume Burt Lahr wore was fashioned from actual lion hide and was worn in numerous scenes from the movie and will undoubtably go for a large lump sum of cash.

A similar costume used in the film sold for nearly $1 million dollars!

But we have to know, does the fabulous red hair-ribbon come with it?

Memorabilia From Other Iconic Films To Be Auctioned Off

The costume is a part of “TCM Presents: There’s No Place Like Hollywood.” Also being auctioned off is memorabilia from Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, and a costume from Gilda.

According to The Associated Press, the costume is owned by James Comisar, a collector of TV memorabilia who’s hoping to raise money to fund the exhibition of his collection.

What a great cause. Hopefully the costume goes to a great home and raises quite a bit of money!
