Ian Somerhalder & Nikki Reed’s Secret Dating: Be Honest With Exes About Romance
To say that there are eyes and ears everywhere is true. You’re both famous vampires. Ian, you’re sexy bad boy Damon on the hit show The Vampire Diaries, and Nikki, you also played a vampire — Rosalie Hale, Edward’s adoptive sister in the five blockbuster Twilight films.
It’s because you’re both so famous and popular, and because you went public in such a carefree manner, that you two probably should have given a heads up to your exes, who you are still quite close to.
Ian, 35, you seriously dated your Vampire Diaries co-star Nina Dobrev, 25, for three years and have reportedly still been on-and-off with her since your split about a year ago. In any case, you are still close friends and you even tweeted her love on her 25th birthday on Jan. 9.
Nikki, 26, you just filed to divorce singer and American Idol alum Paul McDonald, 29, this past March, after a passionate and whirlwind romance and marriage. Paul is still “devastated” over the split, we hear from a source at HollywoodLife.com.
“Paul is still totally heartbroken over the breakup,” a source close to the singer tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “He loves her and always will. They still work together and are in contact. He tries not to ask too much about anything, but he’s hurt. He had every intention of being with her forever.”
Now, aside from the fact that you both are still close and in touch with your exes, you all also used to double date and be very friendly as couples.
Nikki, you were close friends with Nina — such tight friends that you even recorded a PSA together about getting covered by health insurance just a few months ago in March, 2014.
Ian Somerhalder & Nikki Reed: Don’t Disrespect Your Exes
That’s why this situation is tricky. Many women feel that it’s part of the unofficial “girl code” to never date a friend’s ex. In other words, Nikki, you may be breaking ranks with your friend Nina by seeing Ian. And Ian, most women do get pretty upset when their ex dates a friend too.
Just think about Kristen Stewart, who was so hurt when Robert Pattinson dated two of her friends, Riley Keough and Dylan Penn after they split. Rob ended up breaking it off with both of these girls out of respect for Kristen once she pointed out his “transgression.”
Ian, I can’t imagine that Paul, who you were friendly with too, is happy about you seeing his ex-wife.
Ian and Nikki, we hear at HollywoodLife.com that you didn’t tell Nina, at least, about the “feelings” that you have for each other. That very well may be the reason that she posted two very intense and possibly pointed Instagram messages on July 22 and 21. Here’s what she said:
“Pretty words aren’t always true and true words aren’t always pretty.”
Ian, is she asking you to tell her the truth about your Nikki romance, even if she knows she isn’t going to like it?
She captioned this message with the words, “A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool.”
Hmm. Ian, is she calling you a fool for flattering yourself by thinking that she wouldn’t hear about your new romance?
Then there’s the July 21 poem she posted on Instagram that cryptically says:
“I give
You take
I break
You fake
PITY,
I bleed
You dive in deep
Into my blood
Thick as syrup
Tell me
Are you a mosquito?”
Ian, is Nina calling you a taker and a faker who is attacking her very essence by romancing her friend?
Listen, Ian, no one knows why you really split from Nina. No one knows if you two talked about taking a break but left the door open to getting back together. We just don’t know. But it seems more than coincidental that Nina, who usually writes very uplifting messages on social media, is suddenly posting these cryptic and negative verses.
I’d guess that she is not happy about finding out through the press that you and Nikki are suddenly together and showing PDA at the farmer’s market.
Nina may feel disrespected if she didn’t hear about you two getting together from either of you. And she may feel betrayed by two of the people closest to her suddenly having a romantic relationship.
Ian, it seems you may have tweeted and then deleted an explanation for your behavior in response to fan criticism. You cautioned that people shouldn’t jump to conclusions without knowing the full story. Here’s the deleted tweet:
“Ummm, everyone – I hate to break it to you but… You have zero clue what really goes on in other peoples’ lives. It does you or anyone else any good at all to project negative energy out there. There is no harm here, I ask you to back off with your negativity, focus that energy elsewhere In a positive manner and let people live their lives. It’s only fair. Thank you and good night.”
We get it. We don’t know the full story — but does Nina? In any case, both you and Nikki owe Nina an honest conversation. She may still not be happy at all, but Ian, you especially should try to mend fences. Not only is Nina your up-until-now friendly ex, but she is also your serious co-star on The Vampire Diaries, and you two will be headed back to the set very soon.
Delena have their romance to resume. Now, see what you can do to keep Nina’s friendship!
