Selena Gomez In ‘Rudderless’ — New Movie Is Dark
The film’s premise is described as follows:
The film is a musical drama about the power of a parent’s love. When a grieving father in a downward spiral stumbles across a box of his deceased son’s original music, he forms a band, hoping to find peace in the wake of his tragic loss.
Selena plays Kate Lucas and a source close to production tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “Selena’s character once dated a guy named Josh, the character who is dead. She shares some tears with Emily, who is played by Felicity Huffman. She also interacts with Billy Crudup, who plays Sam, Josh’s dad (the grieving father).”
Our source adds, “Two years later, Selena’s character sees Sam again, but he doesn’t remember her. At this time, she goes by her middle name, Ann. She’s mad at Sam for playing Josh’s songs and she yells at him. Selena’s character talks about why she changes her name and it’s because people badgered her about sex and being in a cult — she even had to change schools.”

they kept calling me. What kind of
sex did we have? Did we have a
cult. Were there others? I had to
change schools.
Sounds like a very intense movie!
Jamie Chung: We’ll See A Different Side to Selena Gomez
Selena’s co-star Jamie Chung told E! News, “[The movie is] the parents’ perspective of being the parents of a murderer, a mass murder like Sandy Hook. You never get to hear the parents’ perspective of dealing with the hurt and the betrayal and the anger and the love. It’s a really interesting angle on a story like that. It’s pretty dark but it’s kind of beautiful in a way.”
Jamie also promises that we’ll see a different side to Selena. She said, “The thing is, she’s so talented, you’re really going to see a different side. It’s going to be a bit more fragile. I think it’s a side you’ve never seen of her. It’s quite fantastic. It’s dark. But she’s always so lovely.”
Rudderless is set for release in 2014. Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison adapted the screenplay from the original story they wrote with William H. Macy.
