1. Courtney is a proud Aussie!

The singer was born in New South Wales, Australia and grew up on the beautiful beaches of Sydney. At the age of 16, she moved with her family to the island state of Tasmania and attended St. Michael’s Collegiate School and Tasmanian School of Art. Sounds like a very prestigious school!

2. She used to be in a band called Immigrant Union. 

Courtney was a member of the Australian psych-country band, Immigrant Union, between the years 2011 and 2013. It was a musical project that was started by Brent DeBoer and Bob Harrow. Not only did she sing in the group, she also played slide guitar! Courtney was on the band’s second studio album, Anyway as well. She is a woman of many talents for sure!

3. Courtney is a left-handed guitarist!

Something you don’t often notice is left-handed guitarist, and Courtney is one of them! Other prominent artist like Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain were also left-handed guitarist. Another interesting fact to mention is that the legendary Paul McCartney is right-handed but plays left-handed guitars! Who knew?!

4. She is in a relationship with fellow singer-songwriter Jen Cloher. 

Courtney is openly lesbian and has lived in Melbourne with her partner, Jen Cloher, since 2011. The two co-wrote the song “Numbers” and it was written about their relationship. Aww, how cute! Courtney’s other song “Pickles from the Jar” also gives more details about their relationship as well.

5. Courtney went solo in 2013 and skyrocketed from there!

After the release of her first EP, I’ve Got a Friend called Emily Ferris, Courtney signed to Marathon Artists in 2013. In August that same year, she released The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas, which was a combined package of Barnett’s first EP and her second EP, How To Carve A Carrot into a Rose. Courtney’s debut album, Sometime I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit was released in 2015 and was received very highly by everyone in the industry! After all, it did give her Grammy nom!
