Tyler Hoechlin Leaving ‘Teen Wolf’ — Not A Series Regular
Wow. This is some pretty sucky news, isn’t it?
Fan-favorite character Derek Hale has bid adieu to his pals Scott and Stiles back in Beacon Hills, confirms BuzzFeed. Thankfully, even though he won’t be on every episode in season five, Jeff Davis has promised that Derek isn’t gone for good.
“Tyler Hoechlin decided he wanted more time to pursue movies,” Jeff confirmed during the Teen Wolf panel at PaleyFest on Wednesday night, March 11. “We talked and creatively agreed that maybe this was a good season to refocus on the teens of Teen Wolf, and while he won’t be a series regular anymore, I can say that you probably won’t have seen the last of Derek Hale.”
Although it’s great to hear that Derek isn’t exactly a goner, Jeff also mentioned that they “love him and miss him,” which sounds like he hasn’t been around at all just yet as they film season five. Yikes.
Derek’s Departure In The Season 4 Finale
You might remember that the very end of season 4’s Teen Wolf finale left things open ended, and there was definitely room for Derek to go his own way from Mexico.
When Stiles, Scott, Kira, and Malia came out from underground and saw that Derek was leaving without them, something felt off about the whole thing, didn’t it? Now it makes more sense, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we have to be happy about it.
