‘TVD’ Spoilers: Elena & Damon Will Go Through A ‘Honeymoon’ Stage

Delena fans, don't fret over that almost-kiss that was ruined by Kai on the mid-season finale -- we've got a good feeling it will happen in 2015. And the team behind the show agrees! You may remember that The Vampire Diaries ended with Elena (Nina Dobrev) finally about to give in to her feelings for Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Unfortunately, that was cut short, but that doesn't mean their reunion will be. TVD's executive producer, Caroline Dries revealed in a new interview that they want the pair to go through that "honeymoon period" of a relationship. We can hope that includes a lot of steamy make outs in front of the fire, right?

‘The Vampire Diaries’: Damon & Elena Back Together?

“Elena is consciously making a decision to confront her feelings for Damon,” Caroline Dries, told Alloy Entertainment in a new interview. “When we first got them together at the end of season 4 and they kissed in front of the fireplace, we then cut to three months later. They experienced a whole chunk of time together that we didn’t see — sort of the honeymoon period of a new boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. And, so, what we were excited about doing with their relationship and interested in playing around a bit with were those initial stages. It’s a little awkward and weird and you are nervous about what to say — basically all those things we didn’t get to see the first time around — but, all in all, it’ll be fun to watch.”

Are Delena Endgame?

I think she’s forgetting a major plot point — during the “honeymoon period,” it’s not all awkwardness. It’s a lot of hooking up, which Delena fans are pretty much dying to see. Caroline also revealed that after Kai (Chris Wood) completely RUINED their moment, she was surprised she didn’t get hate messages from Delena shippers!

“I think people were just happy that we pushed the football down the field a little bit more with them,” she added — and yes, we were. Sure we wanted that mistletoe kiss, but you know what, slow and steady wins the race, right?

Plus, we saw in the trailer for the show’s return on Jan. 22 that this means Damon will try to save her — which ultimately could bring them even closer.
