Richard Petty slammed Danica Patrick at the Canadian Motosports Expo saying that the hot GoDaddy.com race car driver has no chance of winning her next major race.

Danica Patrick has been making headlines in NASCAR for years as the driver behind the signature GoDaddy.com race car but Richard Petty, also known as the “King of NASCAR” said that Danica has no chance of winning in her second season behind the wheel, according to CBS Sports. Many critics are claiming Richard’s comments were sexist, while others believe they were just informed observations from a seasoned veteran of the sport.

Danica Patrick’s Talent Behind The Wheel In Question

During the Canadian Motosports Expo on Feb. 10, Richard spoke his mind when asked about Danica’s chances of winning in her second season behind the wheel of a Sprint Cup Car. Richard was quite clear in his message about what it would take for Danica to pull off a win in the sport he helped build to national popularity.

“Only if everybody else stayed home,” Richard said of Danica’s chances. If that comment wasn’t bad enough he went on to say other comments that some took as sexist and discriminatory against Danica.

Potentially Sexist Remarks Made Against Danica Patrick

“If she’d have been a male, nobody would ever know if she’d showed up at a race track,” said Richard. “This is a female deal that’s driving her.”

However, one can’t be to quick to point the finger at Richard as he also made comments in support of Danica’s role in bringing more fans to NASCAR.

“She has helped to draw attention to the sport, which helps everybody in the sport.”

No. Richard Petty’s remarks were NOT Sexist…He didn’t say that Danica wouldn’t win because she’s a woman, and can’t drive for that reason, either. Richard is basing his vast knowledge, and experience of car racing, on what Ms. Patrick has shown as far as skill,so far. He doesn’t believe(as do several other knowledgeable individuals[men AND women])that Danica possesses the skill to win in her 2nd season. She’s good, but—not good enough. That’s what Petty is saying. And, he would say that about her if she were a dude with the same skills. Now, if she,or any, that can’t take some 50-years of race winning opinion about such things—they’re not going to get very far—No matter Who they are…
I believe Mr. Petty’s prediction(maybe a a tad harsh)to be spot-on…
Now,if she’s the true contender I believe her to be,instead of getting upset about this, she Should go see Mr. Petty, and see if there’s things he could tell her to ‘up-her-game’. She may be surprised. King Richard has probably forgotten more about winning races than most anybody alive will ever know…
If Mr. Petty is willing to share some of that knowledge with Ms. Patrick, and she puts it to use—she might make everyone see her differently…you never know…
The reason there’s a difference in Ms. Patrick and ‘Cha-Cha’ Muldowney(besides the different race venues,of course)is that Ms. Muldowney was a Winner…
You have to WIN Ms. Patrick, not just be able to drive…
As far as I know, everyone on that Track can Drive—but, there’s only One Winner…
Remember: The checkered Flag isn’t sexist,or racist,or anything else like that—it waves at the leader of the pack—No Matter Who that is…
Hollywood—out.
