‘Vampire Diaries’: Damon & Elena’s Search For Katherine Ends In Tragedy

Plus, Silas calls on Bonnie for his third massacre! Is there no stopping him?

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) took a bite out of the Big Apple on the March 21 episode of The Vampire Diaries, indulging in all the usual tourist activities: feeding on innocent New Yorkers, hunting down the cure for vampirism, and — for whatever reason — getting tacky pink highlights. Like, really tacky. But when they weren’t painting the town red, literally, Damon was regaling his girlfriend with tales from his days in 1970s New York — including his secret fling with Lexi (Arielle Kebbel)! I know, I was surprised too.

My surprise lessened, however, when we learned Damon was only faking his feelings for Lexi in order to get her off his back. Stefan (Paul Wesley) had sent her to NYC to fix Damon, which obviously didn’t sit too well with him. Suddenly, I totally understand why Damon eventually killed her.

Damon and Elena’s big-city trip took a delightfully twisted turn when Rebekah (Claire Holt) showed up, armed with more than just her usual zingers and a healthy thirst for booze. Blondie had a plan, and it involved snapping Damon’s neck and skipping town with Elena to search for Katherine. It was like Thelma and Louise, only better! (Because we all know Ian Somerhalder is worth a million young Brad Pitts.)

Forget The Originals; Can we get an Elena-Rebekah spin-off please?!

Meanwhile, Back In Mystic Falls…

Bonnie (Kat Graham) discovered a super-unfortunate loophole in Silas’ plot to lower the wall between worlds: The third and final massacre had to involve witches — and lots of ‘em. So she convinced her parents to round up a dozen of the most powerful witches in Mystic Falls, but things didn’t exactly go according to plan. (Let’s be real, though; do things ever go according to plan on this show?)

The witches tried to free the wayward Bennett from the grip of Expression, but when it quickly became a Bonnie-dies-or-they-die situation, Caroline (Candice Accola) foolishly stepped in to save her best friend. After nomming on one witch, the rest fell like dominoes — and thus, “the triangle is complete.” (…Fantastic.)

Caroline and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) shared a brief moment in the woods, but once Caroline realized what she had done — you know, killed 12 people and allowed Silas’ plans to come to fruition — she bawled and bounced. ”Why don’t you find someone less terrible to complain to?” Klaus told her, before Silas showed up and daggered him.

HollywoodLifers, what did you think of this week’s Vampire Diaries? Do you wish there had been more Damon-Elena and Caroline-Klaus moments? Would you have been bummed if Bonnie died? And am I crazy, or has Shane gotten hotter since he turned evil? Drop me a comment with your review of the episode, and your predictions for the future!

Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad episode! This show is going downhill so rapidly that I went from; driving like a maniac to get home to watch the show live, to record the show to watch later, to call my friends the day after to find out what happened, to read recaps days later, to totally forgetting TVD was on….I used to love the characters, but after a while, I found myself increasingly cursing at them while watching the show (heavy-duty unrepeatable insults) I feel so bad for the actors for I’m sure they must not agree with the stupidity of this material. What a shame!

That episode was good but I would die if Bonnie died to, haven’t there been enough death. For example 2 of my favorite characters (KOL and Jeremy) are gone!!!! But I hope jeremy comes back for season 5 of the vampire diaries and also hope that KOL joins the original spinoff. Thumbs cross everyone

It was an ‘Ehh’ episode, I missed it when it aired on Thursday. I think the show is slowly losing its touch. I used to be so psyched to watch it, but now, I feel like I’m just getting irritated with the episodes. I love that Elena shut her emotions off, but c’mon! She is acting like Katherine now. The writers need to create a MORE prominent distinctions between those two -_-. Also, they really need to expand Bonnie’s character a little more. I am getting confused (and a headache) whether she’s under Silas’ control or not.

The only part of the episode that I really loved was the scene between Silas and Klaus. I love Klaus’ face when he saw Silas holding the stake. Priceless!! I love Klaus, I do. Though, lately he’s being too ‘nice’. I prefer the ‘charming-yet-insane’ Klaus I read from the book…He was just Evil. No emotions or all that crap. He kind of deserves being stabbed in the back. Now, he knows how it feels like.

I cannot stand Elena. This new a*****e attitude is getting old and also her thinking she’s soo tough is just annoying. Someone please beat the s**t out of her. Julie said the difference between her and Katherine was that Katherine uses seduction to get what she wants and Elena uses blatant honesty, welp Julie, you screwed that up. Making Damon think he was getting laid so she could get the info on Katherine? You’re full on Katherine now honey. Get rid of Bonnie, her character is dry. Damon, move on, Elena sucks now, even more than sired Elena. I think everyone should just say f**k Elena, than maybe she won’t be so full of her b***hy a** self. I’m now screaming obscenities at my t.v. every Thursday.

Elena has no Emotions, so it it is not unusally that She would act the way She does. Also She does not want the cure , so that is why She is acting the way she does. Believe Me, She never had Damon fooled, He knew excactly what She was doing , since He knows firsthand, what having your Humanity shut of, means.

It was a decent episode. It’s “out of the fire, into the frying pan” for the next few weeks I think. I miss Delena and I really miss the old Elena… but it was okay. I’m really sick of the race for the cure tho.

I usually love this show but not right now. This has become a show about Katherine. We do not need a show with two characters that are exactly the same. Not liking the way tvd is going. Love how Klaus treated Caroline though.(still hoping for a hook up between the two)

I do love what Klaus did and said to Caroline at the end of the eposide.. It was great. She doesn’t care who she insults or hurts, but doesn’t like it when it happens to her. she truly is a dumb blond.

It wouldn’t have hurt my feelings if Bonnie got axed this week. I am starting not to like her character and what she has become. Actually I haven’t liked it for a while. Leave it to Caroline to screw up things again. I wish there were a little more feeling between Damon and Elena. I like this Elena better because she is not wishy washy and knows what she wants.

I wish there was more feelings between damon and elena to, but it is not possible, they have thrown every obstacle in there way and Elena doesn’t have any feelings at all. So i guess we have to wait until her feelings come back which probably wont be until the end.

That’s been the case with every villain, its getting old. You would think Silas the first immortal would be completely evil but its vampire diaries they like to give emotions to even the most evil people.

I’d love a villain on this show who’s actually 100% evil. Not like Katherine, or Klaus, or anyone else who was later revealed to be deeply emotional.

Okay I’m wondering something: Is Silas invisible or just in someone’s head or something. He must be a physical person since all the blood bags are being sucked dry throughout the hospitals but why did it look like Klaus wasn’t talking to anyone when the camera zoomed out when Silas was obviously there talking. And now that Silas is presenting himself to other people as Silas, why is he still wearing Professor Shane lol

I guess I’ll have to watch the episode again because I HATED every part of it. I even found myself hating on Bonnie, my favourite character and… liking all of the Klaroline scenes (WTF). I definitely got Julie Plecced on this one. She has the knack for making you fall in love with the unthinkable like Forwood while being a Matt fan, Delena while being disgusted by Damon’s selfishness, with Rebekah who now makes me wonder whether she wasn’tt swapped at birth with Katherine, the latter acting more like Barbie Klaus). And that quarter of a stake, how Silas is gonna kill any original with that? The only think you can whittle out of that are toothpicks. Is he gonna tickle Klaus or what?

Even though Elena is the one without her humanity, I found Damon to be a bigger jerk this week. Glad his neck got snapped by Bex and Elena stole his car. YAY for the girls. And he is sooo mad next week from the promo. Good. Agreed that this week was a little boring. I FLOVED that Klaus gave Caroline the verbal smackdown. Poor Bonnie. Stefan was bland backround as usual. I miss season one and two Stefan.

“suddenly i understand why he killed her”…because she tried to “fix” him..damon told lexi to fix stefan in 1864 how is that any different..or any different from stefan/damon now trying to fix elena this season, or damon/elena trying to fix stefan last season..in the end lexi accomplished turning damons humanity back on as he admitted that he felt hatred towards her during the 70s–which is an emotion..so why is it okay when damon does it to other ppl yet when ppl treat damon the same way he treats others he gets glorified by some and the others get hated on..makes no sense

I love Damon and Elena together, but Elena is just annoying after morphing into Katherine. Let’s face it – Elena without feelings is just Katherine. I guess killing off Jeremy so that Elena could go to the darkside wasn’t worth it.
