The ‘Style’ singer and the former One Direction band member’s romance was short-lived, but their love will always be a fan-favorite topic.
Taylor Swift and Harry Styles dated way back in the day, but that doesn’t mean their romance ever went out of style! Both singer-songwriters have remained amicable following their breakup, and fans are convinced that they’ve written a song or two about each other over the years.

Harry and Taylor first sparked romance rumors in November 2012 when they were spotted hanging out multiple times.
Throughout the holiday season, the “Sign of the Times” artist and the “Love Story” singer didn’t hide their relationship. They were seen sharing a kiss at a friend’s party, and the duo was spotted again celebrating Taylor’s 23rd birthday at the time. But the perfect moment for Taylor and Harry was when they reportedly shared a midnight kiss in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
Despite enjoying what seemed to be a blissful romance, Taylor and Harry reportedly split after jetting off to the Caribbean together.
Swifties theorized that two songs from Taylor’s 1989 album were inspired by her short-lived relationship with Harry: “Style” and “Out of the Woods.”
Among the most tell-tale lyrics in “Out of the Woods” is when Taylor sings, “Looking at it now / Last December / We were built to fall apart / Then fall back together.” Fans believed the mention of December was a sign of their relationship crumbling since Harry and Taylor split less than a month later.
During a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone journalist Cameron Crowe, Harry implied that his and Taylor’s romance ended because of the constant attention they were getting.
“When I see photos from that day [in 2012], I think: Relationships are hard, at any age,” the former One Direction band member said. “And adding in that you don’t really understand exactly how it works when you’re 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn’t make it easier. I mean, you’re a little bit awkward to begin with. You’re on a date with someone you really like. It should be that simple, right? It was a learning experience for sure. But at the heart of it – I just wanted it to be a normal date.”
Harry also thanked Taylor in his interview and explained the reason for their split.
“Certain things don’t work out. There’s a lot of things that can be right, and it’s still wrong,” the “Watermelon Sugar” singer noted. “Meeting someone new, sharing those experiences, it’s the best s**t ever. So, thank you.”
While appearing on The Howard Stern Show in 2020, Harry praised Taylor’s songwriting skills and how he felt about an ex writing a track about him.
“I think about what it means to me to write a song about somebody else and for somebody else to do that, it’s like flattering, even if the song isn’t that flattering, you still spent time on it and ultimately, using Taylor as an example, she’s a great songwriter,” Harry gushed. “So, at least they’re good songs.”
Harry and Taylor sent “Haylor” fans spiraling when they were spotted fist-bumping at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The exes also appeared to have chatted for a moment.
