Britney Spears opened up about her splits from Justin Timberlake and Kevin Federline in her new memoir The Woman In Me, and she revealed how the breakups changed her in a similar way. She admitted that she “made a lot of mistakes,” when going through those relationships. Reflecting back on it now, the singer said that she was “just stupid,” when dealing with them.
Britney admitted that she lost a lot of faith in people after each of those splits. “That’s the one thing Justin and Kevin ruined about me. I used to trust people,” she said. “But after the breakup with Justin and then my divorce, I never really did trust people again.”
Earlier in the book, she made another comparison between her exes. “Looking back, I think that both Justin and Kevin were very clever. They knew what they were doing, and I played right into it,” she wrote. “So I was young, and I made a lot of mistakes. But I will say this: I wasn’t manipulative. I was just stupid.”
Besides losing her sense of trust, Britney also detailed her divorce from K-Fed, and she revealed how she was convinced to eventually file for divorce from the former dancer. She said her lawyer made it sound like Kevin would eventually file for divorce. “My lawyer told me that if I didn’t file for divorce, Kevin would. What I gathered from this was that Kevin wanted to file for divorce but he felt guilty doing it. He knew that it would make him look better publicly if I was the one who filed,” she explained. “I was led to believe that it would be better if I did it first so that I wasn’t humiliated.”
Britney dated Justin from 1999 until 2002, and she was married to K-Fed from 2004 to 2007. She and Kevin also share two sons Sean and Jayden. In the book, she opens up about many details from each of those relationships, including new information about her pregnancy, as well as many new revelations about her romance with Justin.
