Jonathan Van Ness wanted to end 2020 on a high note, and he did just that! The grooming expert on the Netflix reality TV series Queer Eye, 33, took to Instagram on New Year’s Eve, December 31, to reveal that he got hitched earlier this year! One of the photos in the carousel post featured Jonathan and his adoring spouse, along with a round-up of images from 2020. Even more touching was the beautiful caption he wrote along with the images.
“Thank you universe for allowing me to be here & thanks to everyone who has supported me,” Jonathan wrote. “2020 was a year unlike any other. I got to campaign & get more involved politically. I finished my tour in Australia & NZ for what I didn’t know would be my last standup show for who knows how long,” he said of his year. Then, Jonathan dropped some major news! “I got married to my best friend & have a loving partner to continue building my life with.”
Jonathan continued his caption by divulging the rest of his 2020 and how he spent it. But fans and friends just couldn’t get over how casual he was being about sharing that he had gotten married! “Yay! We can finally celebrate it publicly,” Karamo Brown, the culture expert on Queer Eye, commented. “So happy for you!!!!! One of the most Beautiful couples in the world. Love you & Happy New Year,” Karamo concluded his comment.
Clearly, Jonathan’s strong bond with the Fab Five of Netflix’s Queer Eye meant that they were already in-the-know about Jonathan’s major milestone from the year. Even wardrobe expert, Tan France, left an adoring message for Jonathan. “I love you. Here’s hoping next year is so much better, and that we can finally celebrate your marriage,” Tan wrote. Jonathan did not reveal the identity of his spouse in his post. His co-star Bobby Berk, however, shared in his comment that Jonathan’s spouse’s first name is Mark!
Jonathan has been a fan-favorite of Queer Eye since the series kicked off in 2018. Although he has been reticent to divulge certain aspects of his personal life, Jonathan has used his platform to open up a dialogue about certain experiences that have affected him and so many across the country, such as testing HIV-positive in his 20s and identifying as gender non-binary — utilizing pronouns they/she/he. This is such an exciting time for the political activist and advocate. Congratulations to Jonathan and best wishes for a happy, healthy new year!
