If you want to capture that J-Lo glow, cancel your Botox appointment and pick up a bottle of olive oil. The 51-year-old singer and actress is finally putting to bed rumors that her flawless skin is the result of well-placed injections, as she promotes her upcoming skincare line.
Jennifer Lopez hopped onto a Zoom call with editors a few weeks ago to promote JLo Beauty, which goes on sale on Jan. 1. During the chat she shared a story revealing that, yes, a dermatologist once recommended that she try Botox, but she shut down the suggestion.
“I was in my 20s and I was dating this guy. He went to one dermatologist and I went to another dermatologist,” Jennifer said, according to Elle. “Basically, my dermatologist gave me a great cleanser and some sunscreen and said, ‘If you do this from now on, your skin is healthy, you’re young right now, it’s going to be great.’ And he’s like, ‘But the sunscreen is the thing.’
“And then I went to this other doctor with the boyfriend, and again, I was 20-something-years-old, and I haven’t ever had Botox to this day. And she said, ‘Did you know you have a little line right here? We should start Botox.’”
Jennifer, who says she was around 23 at the time, nixed the idea. “And I was like, ‘I’m going to pass,’” she said. “I didn’t like needles anyway, but the boyfriend’s like, ‘Yeah, you should start it. I do that.’ I was like, ‘No, thank you.’ And I just wonder what would’ve happened to me if I would’ve started Botox at 23. What I would look like right now? My face would be a totally different face today.”
What Jennifer did do is rely on beauty advice that her mom Guadalupe Rodriguez gave her, and she poured those tips into her new skincare line. In a promotional clip that she posted on her Instagram page on Dec. 2, she wowed her fans with her dewy skin while wearing no makeup and just a facemask. “Oh my God this is the best mask that I’ve ever, ever tried,” she said in the video.
Her secret sauce – the ingredient that appears to feature heavily in JLo Beauty – is olive oil, according to the clip. “For years the number one question that I have been asked is, ‘What do I do for my skin?’” Jennifer said in the promo shot that you can see HERE. “People wanted to know and so I felt like, almost an obligation to put it in a bottle and say, OK this is what I do with my skin.”
“I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried drugstore products and I’ve tried the most expensive products,” she later added, “What I went back to was basically secrets my mom told me when I was young. How olive oil was kind of a cure all for your hair, your skin, your nails, your body. There was like nature’s magic ingredient.”
Curious fans can start ordering JLo Beauty products on Dec. 8. They include the JLo Glow Multitasking Serum and That Blockbuster In A Nonstop Wonder Cream.
