Black Beauty will be released on Disney+ on Nov. 27, making it the perfect film to enjoy with your loved ones. The movie, based on Anna Sewell’s classic, follows a wild horse named Black Beauty who is brought to Birtwick Stables where she meets Jo Green. Over the course of the film, Beauty and Jo form an unbreakable bond. HollywoodLife talked EXCLUSIVELY with Mackenzie Foy, who plays Jo, about the power that this film holds.
“I really hope that they take away the whole message of kindness and how that goes a long way, and also I feel like it is a really beautiful thing to look at the entirety of this film,” Mackenzie told HollywoodLife. “It is the story of one horse, one being, the friendships she makes in life, and how they stay with her. I think that is a really beautiful thing. The power of friendship, the power of respect, and those bonds that, even though she’s towards the end of her life, she still remembers and misses Jo. I think that is a really cool thing and shows the importance of what family is.”
While the book Black Beauty has a definitive ending (no spoilers here!), Mackenzie would never rule out doing another Beauty movie. “I mean no matter what, this moment, this film, is going to be a very standalone and special moment for me personally,” Mackenzie continued. “But if there was another Beauty film, I would love to do it, [or] another film with horses I would absolutely love to do it.”
At just 20 years old, Mackenzie has already had so many incredible roles in movies like The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2, Interstellar, and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. When looking back, Mackenzie wouldn’t change or redo a thing.
“Anne Hathaway told me a long time ago, ‘View your work like a learning curve.’ So in that sense, I wouldn’t want to change it because at that moment that is the best that I could do, and I will be able to look back at it and see how I have grown and see how I felt in the moment,” Mackenzie said. “But now I have more knowledge and more life experience. I probably would have done it differently now, but I am glad that I did it the way that I did in that moment.”
