The Jonas family has quietly been dealing with a scary health battle for the last several months. Kevin Jonas Sr., whose sons are Kevin, Joe, Nick and Frankie Jonas, came clean about his colon cancer diagnosis on May 31, and revealed how his family has been by his side during the most difficult times. “[The boys] were shaken,” Kevin admitted to NBC Charlotte after revealing he was diagnosed in March. “Frankie came home from school, Nick came from L.A., Joe flew directly from Japan. They cancelled their schedules, moved important things.”
Kevin had surgery at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, and his sons were with him the whole time. The 52-year-old will still have to undergo chemotherapy, but felt it was finally time for him to go public with what he’s been dealing with. “There’s also a feeling of responsibility to others,” he explained. “I waited two years past that 50 year mark.” It’s suggested that men start getting screened for colon cancer when they turn 50, and since he waited past that age, it seems Kevin wants to bring more awareness to the disease.
Now that he’s recovering from surgery and continuing his cancer fight, Kevin is back in his hometown of Belmont, North Carolina, with his wife, Denise (he couple recently opened a restaurant, Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, in the town). Obviously, we’ve seen that Nick, Joe and Kevin have gotten back to their regular lives, which was encouraged by their parents. “We watched them grow up, and I think it’s like all parents…you see your kids grow up and if they become good people, you’re proud,” Kevin gushed.
While Kevin is married with two kids and living in New Jersey, Nick and Joe are both continuing their music careers, and have found success as a solo artist and in the band DNCE, respectively. Obviously, though, family is first and most important!
