“I suppose in part I’m telling this story now because I want all of you — and I do mean all — to know that I wasn’t always a somewhat-overweight woman without an upper lip to her name,” Carrie Fisher wrote in her new book, The Princess Diarist, in an excerpt obtained by People magazine. “I was once a relevant piece of ass who barely knew she existed while much of the rest of the moviegoing world saw me romping through the air in a metal bikini.”
Carrie’s book includes excerpts from her diaries that she kept while on set — at the time, she was 19, and Harrison Ford was a 33-year-old married, father of two. “It was Han and Leia during the week, and it was Carrie and Harrison during the weekend,” she wrote.
“It’s been 40 years,” she added. “I didn’t say anything to anybody for years but it’s not like anyone’s deeply affected by it anymore.” She also told the magazine that yes, she did run it by co-star before publishing. He responded sarcastically with, “Lawyer!” but didn’t send any notes, although she was welcome to any.
“There’s still time for Carrison to grow old together, but that gateway is steadily closing,” she wrote in the book. “If we’re going to get back together, we’re going to have to do it soon. And getting back together with someone you were never truly with is, to say the least, complicated. My hopes aren’t high.”
