We’re so glad that this horrible story had a happy ending! Jaycee Dugard, 36, was kidnapped at 11 and held captive for 18 years, giving birth to two daughters during that time. Now, she’s been free for a wonderful 7 years, and she’s ready to give the world an update about how she and her daughters are doing in a new memoir. Here’s the scoop!
“I’m so excited for them and so proud of all the challenges they have overcome,” Jaycee gushes about her two daughters to People. She revealed an excerpt from her new memoir Freedom: My Book of Firsts, on July 5, and explained how her girls are doing after being born as hostages.
Though the girls were the product of Jaycee being raped by her captor, Phillip Garrido, she loves them more than anything. “My daughters are both so important to me, and I am so proud of who they are growing up to be,” Jaycee writes. “I’ve done my best to protect them over the years, just like any other mother would do for her kids.”
The girls have grown up to become smart, passionate young women. One is already in college and the other is getting ready to do the same. Jaycee still wants to protect them, and in doing so she has left their names out of her book, and explained why she spoke of them so little.
“You might wonder why not more of this book is about them since they are such a big part of my life,” she explains, “I have chosen it to be this way for the simple reason that I believe they deserve the right to their own stories. One day if they want to, they can write them their way.” We totally respect that! We’re so glad they’re all doing well after such a traumatizing event!
