A crazy video from 2009 has surfaced in the wake of the June 14 death of Lane Graves, 2. The video shows a Disney World worker at Magic Kingdom attempting to get a small alligator back into the water just feet away from the tracks at Splash Mountain! You have to see it to believe it — click through!
Points to the cinematographer for setting this footage to the Jaws title theme. It really sets the tone for the whole wild experience! A tourist at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom noticed something strange going on in the water by the bottom of the hill. An alligator was swimming around, and attempting to get on land right next to the boats full of people coming down the “river” on the famous log ride!
The man filming the crazy scene notices a Disney employee holding a long rod, poking at the alligator and hitting the ground to shoo it away. “That’s all he brought with him?” the guy says. You know what, that does seem like a pretty lackluster weapon for battling a prehistoric lizard!
Luckily, nothing happened to the happily oblivious people having fun on Splash Mountain. That would be the opposite of a “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” day. The screams in the background aren’t out of horror; it’s just kids having a blast on the oh-so scary ride! We can assume that the valiant park employee was able to corral the gator to safety. The related links on the Youtube video show tons of alligator sightings around Disney World. Another gator (or maybe the same one?) was floating around Splash Mountain in September 2015, just a few months before Lane was dragged into the water and drowned by one at the Grand Floridian Resort.
In another video, this time from 2006, an alligator is chilling in the water next to the log ride again. Luckily, nobody has been attacked while riding Splash Mountain. But hopefully those waters will be investigated just like the lagoon at the Grand Floridian to prevent any further tragedies.
HollywoodLifers, are you shocked there have been so many alligators at Disney World? Tell us in the comments!
