Like the rest of us, Carmen Electra is “in shock” over the completely unexpected death of Prince on April 21, and the actress couldn’t help but to gush about the icon, saying he was “like god.” See what else she said about the “Purple Rain” singer, here.
Carmen’s rep tells HollywoodLife.com that Carmen is crushed over the loss. “I was so shocked and heartbroken to hear about the loss of my mentor, Prince,” said Carmen. “The world has lost a truly incredible spirit and musical genius. What a blessing it is to be one of the chosen ones who had the chance to work so closely with him. He gave me my name, he believed in me, and he has inspired an entire generation. I will always love him… ‘Sometimes it Snows in April.'”
Poor thing! She continued musing about the loss to E!. “I’m in shock,” she said. “This is so sad. He always talked about life, not death. He was excited about music,” she remembered. “But, back then he talked a lot about God, but not about religion. Prince was like a god. Maybe that’s why I’m so shocked he’s passed away.”
The couple dated in the early 1990s, but Prince was even more instrumental to her arrival in the music business. She auditioned for him in a girl group and didn’t make the cut. However later, he called her up and wrote her a song that got her in the game. “The name of the song was ‘Carmen on Top,” the mused in an OWN interview. “My name is Tara, so I was confused. I loved the song. I loved it, but he said, ‘You’re not a Tara. You’re not Tara. You’re Carmen.”
