[Spoiler] has got a ridiculously good voice and it has earned them the ultimate prize: winning Season 9 of The Voice on Dec. 15! In the end, it was an easy choice for judges Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Pharrell and Adam Levine. Here are five things to know about [Spoiler]!
1. Jordan has been singing since he was a little kid.
Jordan Smith‘s parents, Kelley and Geri Smith are musicians — his father was a professional pianist and his mother is a singer — and they exposed their son to song from an early age. He began singing in a church choir at a young age in Wallins Creek, Kentucky. He later studied singing at Lee University, and he even performed at the Presidential Inauguration in 2013 with his college choir.
2. As soon as he joined The Voice, Jordan became a Billboard-charting artist.
Jordan sang the song “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, during week two of the live shows on The Voice. His rendition charted on the Billboard magazine charts and it landed at No. 30 on The Billboard Hot 100,. It was also No. 1 on the Christian Songs chart for 2 weeks straight — and Jordan placed again at No.1 with his recording of, “Hallelujah”!
3. He’s head-over-heels for his girlfriend, Kristen.
Sorry, ladies, Jordan is 100% taken — he’s been dating fellow Kentuckian Kristen Denny for a long time, and she even flew to California for moral support when Jordan did his blind audition for The Voice. They Tweet at and FaceTime each other all the time. Long distance relationships are always hard, but Kristen knows that her boyfriend is about to become a huge star and she’s been behind him every step of the way! Likewise, he treats her well and sent her a beautiful Kate Spade bag for her birthday.
4. Jordan is often mistaken for a woman — and he’s okay with it.
Anyone who’s seen the show knows that Jordan has a very unique voice, and it caused him to have self-esteem issues as a kid. However, Jordan is using his experiences to be an inspiration for others. “On the show, they really highlighted the fact that I don’t look like I sound, which is OK with me, because that’s the message that I want to get across; that it’s okay to be different than people expect you to be and not fit the mold,” he told the Lexington Herald-Leader. “We live in a world that is hurting, where people disagree over things that don’t matter and things that are on the outside.”
5. He’s never had a traditional Halloween.
Yup, Jordan has never been trick-o-treating! “I’ll dress up and watch Charlie Brown and hand out candy, but nobody would come to our house for the candy, so I’d eat all of it,” Jordan told People in an interview. Aw, so sad!
“I’ve dressed as Scooby Doo. My girlfriend and I dressed up as the Fox and the Hound – that was fun, but I have never been out trick-or-treating,” he added. At least he had fun dressing up!
