To date, Penélope has been nominated 4 times:
2 for Best Actress 2 for Best Supporting Actress
She received her first nom in 2007, for her role ‘Volver’. She lost the Best Actress accolade to Helen Mirren.
Two years later, in 2009, she was nominated again, this time for her role in ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ - and she won!
Beating out Amy Adams, Viola Davis, Marisa Tomei, & Taraki P. Henson, Penélope won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
She returned in 2010 with another Best Supporting Actress nomination, this time for her role in ‘Nine’, but the award went to Mo'Nique.
In 2022, Penélope was once again nominated for Best Actress for her role in ‘Parallel Mothers’. She is up against Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman, Kristen Stewart, and Nicole Kidman.
