As Marvel movies Phase 4 commences, a new line of heroes will be joining the cinematic universe, and a few of them, only the diehard comic fans have heard of. Enter into the chat: Black Knight.
The Marvel legend has it that the original Black Knight served King Arthur. His weapon of choice, the Ebony Blade, was passed on through the generations, landing in the hands of his nephew, Dane.
In ‘The Eternals’ film from 2021, Sersi is in a relationship with a human named Dane Whitman, who as it turns out, isn’t as ‘normal’ as he may seem.
In a post-credit scene, Dane, played by Kit Harington, uncovers a family heirloom: the Ebony Blade. This sets up Kit’s future with the franchise as the present day Black Knight.
In the scene, a voice calls out to Dane, asking if he is ready to wield the blade. It’s a fair question, given that in the box holding the sword reads the phrase. “Death is my reward.”
What comic fans know about the Ebony Blade is that it feeds off the users negative emotions & makes the wielded more violent than they would be. (OMG, is the Ebony Blade a horcrux?!)
As for when we’ll see Kit next as Dane/Black Knight, that’s TBD, but there are many options with over a dozen films in the work for Phase 4 of the MCU. Also, don’t discount him getting his own project like Moon Knight!
