Lea Michele's
Broadway Journey
After landing the role of her lifetime, let’s look back at Lea Michele’s Broadway journey so far.
Hello, Gorgeous!
Her very first Broadway role was as Young Cosette at Imperial Theatre in the production of Les Misérables in 1996.
She then spent a year with the company Ragtime, first in previews in Toronto, and then in NYC at the Lyric in 1999.
A few years later, she joined the company of Fiddler on the Roof as Shprintze at Minskoff Theatre in 2004.
Then came the role that launched her career. She originated the role of Wendla Bergmann in Spring Awakening in 2006, alongside Jonathan Groff, her BFF to this day.
After Spring Awakening, Lea took a pause from Broadway to focus on her TV career. However, she made several appearances at special events.
In 2010 at a special performance of The Rocky Horror Show, she played Janet Weiss at the Wiltern Theatre, and in 2019, she played Ariel at a live performance of Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl.
In 2022, the moment finally came – Lea landed the lead role of Fanny Brice in the musical Funny Girl on Broadway.
