Fun Facts Fans Should Know About The Park

The 3rd theme park to open at Florida’s Walt Disney World has seen a lot of changes through the years! But here are some fun facts and secrets you can enjoy today!

When the park opened in May 1989, it was originally called Disney-MGM Studios.

The park opened with only 5 rides, none of which exist anymore: The Great Movie Ride, the Studio Backlot Tour, The Magic of Disney Animation Tour, the Monster Sound Show, and Superstar Television.

The Magic of Disney Animation Tour housed actual studios for animators, and many Disney classics were produced there, including "Mulan," "Lilo and Stitch," and "Brother Bear."

Tower Of Terror fans may be frightened to learn that during construction, lightening really did strike the hotel, just like in the attraction’s story.

If you’re a big fan of Star Wars, the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction in Galaxy's Edge has a secret game mode that brings Chewbacca along for the ride. But the cheat code is a fan secret!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which replaced the Great Movie Ride, pays homage to the opening day attraction with an Easter Egg halfway through the ride!.

In Muppet Vision 3-D attraction queue, there’s a ticket booth left vacate, with a note from the teller that the key is under the mat. Sure enough, if you pull up the mat,  you’ll be in for a surprise!
