She’s got rhythm! Shakira, born February 2, 1977, is a Colombian singer, songwriter and performer who became one of the most successful Latin artists of all time. After launching her career in Spanish-language music during the 1990s, she achieved global fame with her 2001 crossover album Laundry Service, which featured hits like “Whenever, Wherever” and “Underneath Your Clothes.” She continued her success with songs including “La Tortura,” “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” “She Wolf” and “TQG.” Over the course of her career, Shakira has sold more than 95 million records worldwide and earned a reputation for her distinctive voice, energetic performances and signature belly-dancing style.

The talented artist and belly dancer has won numerous accolades, including multiple Grammy Awards and Latin Grammy Awards, and was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2009, Billboard also named her the Top Female Latin Artist of the Decade. In 2020 she teamed up with Jennifer Lopez to entertain at the Super Bowl Half Time Show, which was one of the most-watched TV events in the world.

In recent years, Shakira has enjoyed a major career resurgence with chart-topping releases, a record-breaking world tour and high-profile performances, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony. She is also a devoted mother to her two sons, whom she shares with former partner Gerard Piqué.
