Learn more about O.J.’s health condition below.
According to multiple outlets, O.J. was living with prostate cancer up until his death. The announcement came at the beginning of 2024 when reports circulated that O.J. was in hospice. However, he denied the rumors.
“Hospice? You talking about hospice?” he said in the video shared to X in February 2024. “No, I’m not in any hospice. I don’t know who put that out there. But whoever put that out there — I guess it’s like the Donald say(s): can’t trust the media!”
O.J. then promoted the Super Bowl party he was throwing at the time, noting, “In any event, I’m hosting a ton of friends for the Super Bowl here in Las Vegas. All is well. So. hey, guys. Take care, have a good Super Bowl weekend.”
Per Daily Mail, O.J. thanked his supporters in a social media video earlier this year, noting that his health was “good.”
“Thank you to all the people who reached out to me. My health is good,” he said in the clip. “Obviously, I’m dealing with some issues, but I think I’m just about over it, and I’ll be back on that golf course hopefully in a couple of weeks.”
According to Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of the disease. Sometimes, patients don’t show signs of the condition in its early stages. While many forms of the cancer can grow slowly, others can worsen rapidly depending on the patient.
According to O.J.’s children, he died on April 10. They announced the news in a statement posted via X (formerly known as Twitter) the following day.
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” the statement read. “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
