Keanu Reeves didn’t become The Internet’s Boyfriend on his good looks alone! The John Wick 4 star garnered a legion of admirers with his effortless charm, with his embracing of the “Sad Keanu” meme and with him reportedly being an all-around decent guy (Twitter fans claim the star doesn’t touch women when posing with them in photos!). With all this courteousness and consideration rolled up into one of big Hollywood heartthrob, Keanu must have had quite a teacher growing up! Enter his mom, Patricia Taylor. Meet the woman who raised her son right and gets to beam with pride when she accompanies him to glamorous, red-carpet events.
Keanu’s mom Patricia was born in 1944 in Hampshire, England, according to her IMDB. The website lists Patricia as a production designer, who worked on 1991’s Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? 1995’s The Four Corners of Nowhere, and 1999’s Couches, Tables and Darts.
In the 70s, when Beirut was a cultural hub before their civil war, Patricia met Keanu’s Chinese-Hawaiian father, Samuel Reeves, in the Lebanese city. Some reports have the pair meeting at a university, others have Patricia as a showgirl when they laid eyes on each other, per Esquire. The couple soon left Beirut and broke up, with Keanu tagging along with his mom afterwards. “I don’t have any memories of it,” Keanu told the outlet. “I think I was only six or seven months old when my parents left.”
The British beauty was a bit unlucky in love. After divorcing Keanu’s father, she went on to marry Paul Aaron, a director working on Broadway and in the film industry. That marriage didn’t last and Patricia would then go on to marry and divorce Robert Miller, a concert promoter, and then Jack Bond, a salon owner.
Before she moved to Tinseltown to do production design, Patricia was a costume designer with some big-name clients, including David Bowie. Keanu recalled to Esquire in 2019 that Patricia was always surrounded by famous folk and he had a chance to meet such stars as Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton, among others.
A year before, Keanu admitted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he had a particularly interesting babysitter at one point during his childhood. “I grew up in Toronto and I lived on this street called Hazelton and there was a recording studio there called Nimbus 9 and my mother was in costume design, she was in rock ‘n’ roll, in the business, and they had friends and she had friends, and so Alice Cooper — I’m told — babysat me,” he divulged, adding, “I don’t know how that could possibly happen, but it did … Supposedly.”
Keanu was asked how he’s ‘like his parents’, and he told Esquire, “I don’t know my father that well but I think that we probably have the same kind of certain sense of humour, share a little sense of the humour, the way we look at the world. And then from my mum… she’s English. There’s a formality to her. So, I think partly some of my kind of formality. I would say that. Yeah.”
