Charli XCX has everyone feeling in their ‘Brat Summer.’
Charli XCX has become a trendsetter this summer with her album Brat, which has everyone on their feet.
The 31-year-old singer has celebrities like Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Alix Earle, and John Summit joining in on the viral dance to her song “Apple.” The lyrics are:
“I think the apple’s rotten right to the core
From all the things passed down
From all the apples coming before
I split the apple down symmetrical lines
And what I find is kinda scary”
First, it was ‘Hot Girl summer,’ now ‘Brat summer’ is in! This era is about being free, being yourself, and, of course, being a little edgy. The “Boom Clap” singer revealed during an interview with Nick Grimshaw, “It [brat summer] can go that way, like, quite luxury, but it can also be so, like, trashy. Just, like, a pack of cigs, and, like, a Bic lighter, and, like, a strappy white top. With no bra. That’s, like, kind of all you need.”
The album, designed with a green gradient aesthetic, has quickly become the album for everyone– including Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, whose team used the Brat theme for her presidential campaign.
This single from her album became a hit trend when TikTok creator Kelley Heyer made up a dance to the track. In her month-anniversary video on the social app, she expressed, “1 month ago I made a dance on a whim and now look at everyone dancing along and having so much fun!! Thank you @CharliXCX for this amazing song and iconic album and for BRAT SUMMER.”

First, head over to the TikTok app to learn the trending dance from creator, Kelley Heyer. Your arms are the most important part of the dance; it requires a lot of hand movements and a leg kick at the end! Keep in mind there are eight counts in every step. Don’t forget to grab an iconic Y2K-themed outfit and channel your inner ‘brat.’
