Welcome back to show biz, Daniel! The Hollywood veteran’s upcoming movie, ‘Anemone,’ is his first production in seven years.
Daniel Day-Lewis is stepping out of retirement and back into the spotlight! The film business veteran is starring in an Anemone, which he co-wrote with his son Ronan Day-Lewis. The film is also Ronan’s first time directing. The movie announcement comes seven years after the Lincoln actor temporarily left acting.
“I knew it was uncharacteristic to put out a statement,” Daniel told W magazine in 2017. “But I did want to draw a line. I didn’t want to get sucked back into another project. All my life, I’ve mouthed off about how I should stop acting, and I don’t know why it was different this time, but the impulse to quit took root in me, and that became a compulsion. It was something I had to do.”
At the time of his interview, the award-winning actor admitted that he didn’t “feel better” yet and felt “great sadness” in leaving his career.
“And that’s the right way to feel,” Daniel pointed out. “How strange would it be if this was just a gleeful step into a brand-new life? I’ve been interested in acting since I was 12 years old, and back then, everything other than the theater — that box of light — was cast in shadow. When I began, it was a question of salvation. Now, I want to explore the world in a different way.”

A release date for Anemone is currently unknown. Since the announcement was recent, production on the project presumably hasn’t wrapped yet. Focus Features chairman, Peter Kujawski, said in a statement that the company is ecstatic to work with the Day-Lewis father-son duo.
“We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator,” Peter said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”
An official synopsis for Anemone has not been released yet. However, the movie is reportedly about the relationships between fathers, sons and brothers.
Per CNN, the film will focus on “the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, and the dynamics of familial bonds.”
In addition to Daniel, the rest of the Anemone cast features Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green.
