Cardi B, 28, really did look like the woman of the year while accepting an award of that name at the 2020 Billboard Women in Music event on Dec. 10. The Grammy-winning singer channeled girl power in her crystal-lined yellow power suit, which Cardi wore while delivering her acceptance speech with her new gold trophy in her hands. Cardi even shared how you, too, can stand up on an award show stage and deliver your own acceptance speech one day.

“When I came into the music industry, I didn’t know if people was going to accept me…You got to put your mind to it,” Cardi said. While the “Bodak Yellow” rapper understood that people are “working just to survive” once “bills come,” she stressed that’s not what life is about — instead, it’s about making “your dreams come true.”
“In order to make your drams come true, don’t think it’s going to come and fall from the sky into your lap. You actually got to put in the work,” Cardi explained. “You got to be ambitious. You got to network. You got to become great at what you do. You got to be able to take criticism.” This mindset landed Cardi with another No. 1 hit on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart after releasing “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion in August.
In addition to looking great, Cardi impressed at the streaming event when she was honored for her achievements in the music industry. She was one of a group of other talented female artists, including Jennifer Lopez, Dolly Parton, Chloe x Halle, Dua Lipa and Jessie Reyez, who were celebrated at the event this year, and it definitely proved the lasting mark her music has made over the past few years. From her debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy, which was released in 2018, to her latest hit single “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, which premiered in Aug. and will be featured on her upcoming second studio album of the same name, there’s been no shortage of memorable entertainment from this iconic lady!
Teyana Taylor, who recently announced her retirement from the music industry, hosted the fun Billboard event, which must have been great for Cardi considering the rapper listed her album as her favorite of 2020 in a recent social media post. “If you know me then you know Teyana Taylor’s album it’s my favorite of 2020,” she wrote while answering fans on Dec. 5. “I swear she really got the best album this year. I hate that she feels how she feels cause she sooo talented and the music is soo good.”
Less than a week before her attendance at the Billboard event, Cardi wowed her social media followers when she posted two eye-catching photos to her Instagram page. In the sexy snapshots, the “Bodak Yellow” creator is wearing a long brown sheer dress under a black fur coat and is posing with confidence. One over-the-shoulder pose also showed off her behind and she didn’t hesitate to leave a bold caption that read, “Swing my way.”
It’s always great seeing Cardi staying true to herself and posting whatever she feels like posting on any given day. Despite facing trolls on a regular basis, she continues to stand up for herself and focus on her supporters more than her haters and that’s truly inspiring! We can’t wait to see what else this beauty has up her sleeve in the future!
