Dancing With the Stars announced Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvinstev as the season 29 winners during the epic finale event. Now that season 29 is in the books, what does mean for the potential 30th season? HollywoodLife spoke with host Tyra Banks, along with other reporters, after the show about looking ahead to next season.
First and foremost, Tyra discussed the status of Derek Hough, who returned to DWTS to fill-in as a new judge while Len Goodman was in the U.K. due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I think Derek is so fantastic,” Tyra said. “He has such compassion, and he dances his ass off. He gives the most amazing critiques, He’s firm, yet warm. He did a really fantastic job. I miss Len. I feel like there’s a way to have them both be here. I have a little notepad in my phone of how I can make that work. I’ve got to get that approved by the team, but it also depends on the health of not just the nation, but the globe, for that to happen.”
The only major change Tyra would like to make from season 29 to season 30 is all about wardrobe! “I think I need to do more costume changes,” Tyra noted. She also said that she liked “having more celebrities” than she’s watched in the past.
When Dancing With the Stars reached season 15, the show did an all-stars season. Could that be the case for season 30? Tyra weighed in about the possibility if the show were to be renewed.
“I honestly have not thought that far, but I am glad that you brought it up because I think there is something beautiful about a retrospective and when you hit a milestone year,” Tyra admitted. “At the same time, there are so many new viewers of Dancing with the Stars, and they might not resonate with a retrospective. So if we do a retrospective it would have to be for those diehard fans that have been there for there, but not like inside baseball where the new people don’t know what is going on. It would still have to feel new if that decision was to be made.”
