Charo is hitting the ball room! The Spanish dancer, full name María del Rosario Mercedes Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza, will dance the night away with Keo Motsepe starting on the March 20 premiere, and their team name is “#TeamCuchiCuchi.”
Charo, 66, revealed three years ago just where her catchphrase came from — and it’s not what you think. “What cuchi cuchi came from is such a disappointment for everybody when they know because everybody thinks that is sex,” Charo said on an episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?. “Cuchillo (knife in Spanish), that was the name of my dog. He was a mix between a St. Bernard and a pit bull. I make a joke about that. First he bite you and then he run for help. But I call him Cuchi Cuchi.”
Of course, it usually goes hand-in-hand with a pelvic thrust, which we can assume will be happening during her time on Dancing with the Stars. “He have a problem in the back so when the dog wiggle, he don’t wiggle like a dog, he wiggle up front, up front I swear,” Charo said. “Never in my mind was sex. Cuchi Cuchi showed me the way to the bank so thank you very much everybody.”
When she first signed up for DWTS, she revealed that she wasn’t too thrilled about Heather Morris joining the cast since she had a dancing background. “That pissed me off, because how can I prepare with a professional dancer? She’s a professional, beautiful, trained dancer,” she told E! News, adding that she plains on entertaining. “I’m a performer, I love the audience and a fly with the music and you give me the guitar and I’m telling you I’m on another planet. So how can the football player, the cowboy, Mr. T, myself compete with a [professional]? So I think this is not fair, but life is not fair. So, what I have to do is move my ass. That’s the only thing.”
Charo has previously appeared in a ton of TV, including The The Love Boat, The Facts of Life, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Suite Life on Deck, Don’t Trust the B—c in Apartment 23, and Jane the Virgin. HollywoodLifers, are you rooting for Charo?
