At the time of Kimbo Slice‘s death on June 6, not a lot was known. But now, more details have emerged, and surprisingly, a new report claims the famous MMA fighter, 42, “had a liver mass and congestive heart failure,” and was placed on a ventilator in intensive care after he was admitted to Northwest Medical Center in Margate on June 3. Doctors also allegedly said he needed a heart transplant to survive, but he died before they could even put him on the donor list.
When Kimbo arrived at the hospital, he reportedly complained of “severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath and nausea,” according to SunSentinel. And this was three days before what was initially reported. When Kimbo first died, reports claimed he was hospitalized on June 6, but this report claims he was admitted on June 3.
Sadly, Kimbo died at 7:30pm on Monday, as doctors were allegedly preparing him for transfer to a hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where the MMA fighter was likely going to be placed on an organ donor list.
The same report claims Kimbo had no history of illicit drug use, and foul play was not suspected in his death.
The CEO of Bellator MMA confirmed the news of Kimbo’s death late Monday evening, according to TMZ, saying, “We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family. One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport. Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man. HIs loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo’s friends, fans and teammates.”
It’s truly heartbreaking. Especially considering a heart transplant could have saved him.
