I saw the movie at the New York City premiere on Feb. 3. Surrounded by the movie’s stars — Rebel Wilson, Dakota Johnson, and Alison Brie — and the audience was in stitches from beginning to end.
Dakota’s character Alice takes a “break” from her long-term boyfriend to “find herself” with every intention of coming back to him with no regrets and ready to start their life together.
When Rebel’s character Robin tells her there is “no such thing as a break, season 3 Ross,” she realizes she may have lost him for good. With that, Rebel teaches her how to be single in New York City.
Of course, Rebel brings her perfect comedic timing and ridiculous dancing to scenes throughout, but Dakota’s dry and awkwardly perfect humor proves how funny she is as well. A nice chance of pace from Fifty Shades of Grey.
Also staring Leslie Mann, the rom-com will have you laughing so hard you miss half the following jokes.
Leslie plays Meg, Alice’s older sister, who is a single, work-a-holic maternity doctor who has no plans of having children of her own. For now. Her juggling act of working and dating in the big city are some of the funniest moments in the film.
Alison plays the slightly obsessive relationship girl who is reading bridal magazines and trying on wedding dresses before she even has a boyfriend. She even creates an algorithm to scan 10 dating websites to find The One. She befriends Tom, who owns a bar under her apartment, and helps saves her from some truly horrific first dates with the code “rum and coke.” Stealing that.
There are definitely tear-jerking scenes, but the majority of the movie will have you hysterically laughing, smiling and saying, “That’s so me.” A special thank you to Bliss, which appears in the movie, for inviting me!
