Hayden Panettiere’s Brave First Words On Postpartum Depression After Treatment

Hayden Panettiere has been very open about struggling with postpartum depression after giving birth to her daughter Dec. 2014. The illness took a big toll on her, and the ‘Nashville’ star decided to seek professional treatment for PPD. Now, she’s back and bravely discussing her journey to happiness.

Hayden Panettiere, 26, voluntarily entered a treatment center for postpartum depression in Oct. 2015, but is now doing amazing. The gorgeous actress turned heads at the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards on Jan. 17, wearing a revealing peach gown while making her first television appearance since seeking treatment.

After welcoming daughter Kaya in Dec. 2014 with her fiancé, boxer Wladimir Klitschko, Hayden starting to struggle with postpartum depression. Sadly, it became too much to handle on her own and she sought out treatment. Now, the actress is back to work and opening up about her journey. “I’ve gotten an incredible amount of support and I was actually really surprised cause I feel like I grew up in this industry that, in my mind, was very judgmental,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

The actress had to take a leave of absence from filming Nashville when she sought treatment. Hayden revealed to ET that she had a “rocky start” when she first went back to set. “The first scene that I did the other day when I saw certain people that I haven’t seen in a while and I felt really comfortable — I just lost it and I couldn’t keep it together. So, it held us up for a second but we got it at the end.”

In Oct, the mother of one checked into a treatment center. Her rep revealed to PEOPLE and confirmed to the news to HollywoodLife.com saying, “is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression. She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time.” This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise since Hayden revealed on Live! with Kelly and Michael at the end of Sept. that she was battling postpartum depression.
