Beyonce and Jay Z made it clear on Halloween that there wouldn’t be a better couples costume than theirs by going with a classic. As characters of the 1988 Eddie Murphy flick Coming to America, the powerhouse duo looked crazy good. Not to mention, they were definitely adding a little joke into the mix…
She’s your Queen-to-be. A Queen-to-be forever! Jay Z and Beyonce looked positively royal while rolling in to a private Halloween bash in New York City on October 31, dressed as Prince Akeem, and his bride, Lisa McDowell, from Coming to America. And can we say, these two completely nailed the couples costume game!
Jay looked the part of the prince right down to the very smallest of details. Rocking a long, fake braid, black cap, jeweled pendant and an ocelot fur (please let that be fake!), he was every part the iconic character. We love the added touch of the filled-in eyebrows! Beyonce’s outfit wasn’t quite what Lisa wore in the film, but she definitely crushed Zamunda-chic fashion. Wearing a yellow patterned turban, short, geometric patterned dress and a leopard-print belt, she glowed. The chunky jewelry is great, too!
For those not in the know, Coming to America is the story of the prince of the fictional Zamunda, who travels to the United States on his 21st birthday to escape an arranged marriage and find true love in Queens, NY. After living life like a commoner (you know, working and dating), Prince Akeem falls for the normal but gorgeous Lisa (Vanessa Bell Calloway), and the two live happily ever after in royalty.
The best part of this entire getup is the fact that it’s a bit of a joke to the couple. After Beyonce wore that stunning crystalized, but nearly nude dress to the 2015 Met Gala, the internet blew up with jokes about how they looked like Prince Akeem and his arranged bride, Imani Izzi. In the film, her wedding gown is the same kind of ornately beaded, almost naked affair. Running with that joke for Halloween is so perfect!
