First, Kanye West, 36, blamed the press in a new stage rant for the public backlash after he stopped his concert until a wheelchair-bound fan stood up. Now Kim Kardashian, 33, is passionately defending her husband online by saying that Kanye’s Australian concert has been “clouded by lies in the media.”
It looks like Kim does NOT think her hubby should apologize for his concert wheelchair mixup on Sept. 12.
Kim took to Instagram on Sept. 15 to post an emotional message about Kanye’s Australian tour. In her message, Kim said:
“What an amazing Australian tour! Its frustrating that something so awesome could be clouded by lies in the media. Kanye never asked anyone in a wheel chair to stand up & the audience videos show that. He asked for everyone to stand up & dance UNLESS they were in a wheel chair. #JustWantedEveryoneToHaveAFunNight #TheMediaTwistsThings”
Kim is right that Kanye gave a special shoutout to an audience member in a wheelchair. Kanye said, “I can’t do this show until everybody stand up. Unless you got a handicap pass and you get special parking and s**t,” according to TMZ.
But here’s the problem: While the incident was a major mixup, it was still probably really hurtful to the person in the wheelchair. According to the initial report about the incident, the crowd actually boo’ed the person who physically couldn’t stand up (they weren’t aware the person was in a wheelchair). While it’s nice that Kim wants to defend the man she loves, it’s fairly obvious that the incident, despite being a miscommunication, has offended a lot of people.
It seems as though Kanye doesn’t think he needs to apologize for the situation, either.
He hit the stage in Brisbane, Australia on Sept. 14 and blamed the media for the negative spin on the incident. TMZ released the video of Kanye’s rant about the media, where he called out noted TV personalities like Matt Lauer, Whoopi Goldberg and Michael Strahan.
Kanye said this about the media: “They want the masses, the people who have never even heard one of my albums to somehow read a headline… and think I’m a bad person.” He also said: “Look at me for a second. Take a step back and look at this. I’m a married, Christian man with a family. At my concerts I make sure everybody has as good of a time as possible.” He ended by saying, “Pick a new target.”
