In case you’re not yet aware, Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) is a life ruiner. Even when she doesn’t have her own body, she still manages to throw a wrench in all that is good and pure in Mystic Falls. Case in point: Damon (Ian Somerhalder) pulled out all the stops to win back Elena on the Jan. 30 episode of The Vampire Diaries — honestly, he was speaking so selflessly, I almost wondered if it was really him — but because Katherine was currently behind the wheel, she had Elena tell him off and walk away.
And to make matters even more complicated, Katherine revealed the real reason she rejected Damon is because she’s got her sights set on Stefan (Paul Wesley)! “He’s my one true love,” she told Nadia (Olga Fonda), pretending for a minute that she’s actually capable of loving another person other than herself.
Unfortunately for Katherine, it looks like she might have a little competition for Stefan’s affection. The bunny-nomming Salvatore engaged in some hardcore flirting with Caroline (Candice Accola) after a complicated evening, and even though nothing came of their conversation, there was way too much giggling and complimenting for it to be considered innocent. Am I the only one who thinks Stefan might be the next person to go for a ‘walk in the woods’ with Caroline?
Speaking of Caroline, you know the old saying “the truth shall set you free?” Whoever came up with that load of crap is clearly unaware of what Ms. Forbes is going through, because coming clean about her encounter with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) pretty much ruined her life. Upon learning the truth about her little nature excursion, Tyler (Michael Trevino) told her where she could go — and it wasn’t his bedroom.
Of course, like all the men in Mystic Falls, Tyler was more hurt than angry. After drowning his sorrows in every single drop of alcohol he could get his hands on, Mystic Falls’ resident were-hunk broke down in tears, with only Matt (Zach Roerig) to comfort him. That’s right, the human Band-Aid once again came to the rescue, putting everyone else’s needs before his own. For crying out loud, he didn’t even get himself laid when Katherine compelled him to!
Caroline was feeling understandably garbage-y after telling Tyler the truth, but Stefan took a page from the Book of Matt and cheered her right up. He convinced her that she’s not a bad person for giving into her urges — he referenced his own sexual misstep with Katherine, which was big of him — and told her not to beat herself up. Stefan Salvatore is a true champion of women and he will not stand for slut-shaming!
That’s when things basically went to hell.
Earlier in the evening, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) told Damon to kill Aaron (Shaun Sipos), but the kind-hearted brooder just couldn’t do it — until “Elena” dumped him and sent him into an emotional tailspin. Not only did he tell Enzo where he sent Aaron for safe keeping, but he actually joined Enzo and helped him drain the poor Ken Doll of his blood!
I’m not sure if Aaron is dead or not — I mean, he’s probably dead — but one thing’s for sure: Dark Damon is back, and I’m not happy about it.
HollywoodLifers, are you bummed that Katherine ruined Damon and Elena’s reunion? Do you think she stands a chance with Stefan, or do you see him playing for Team Caroline? And, seriously, what is it going to take to get Matt into bed with someone?! Drop a comment with your review of this week’s Vampire Diaries below.
