We may never get a duet featuring Harry Styles and Lorde in real life. Fortunately, we got to picture what it would be like when Saturday Night Live mimicked both singers during a hilarious “Now That’s What I Call Christmas” skit on Dec. 21.
The duet had Lorde (played by Kate McKinnon) singing a Christmas-themed version of her song “Royals” while Harry (played by Jimmy Fallon) stood meekly in the background.
Because Jimmy was playing up Harry’s shyness, the character didn’t actually have any lines, but that didn’t matter. Seeing Jimmy rock Harry’s hair cut and his a-tad-too-tight style was hilarious enough. Jimmy also had some of Harry’s mannerisms down pat, from the way he always stands with his arms crossed on red carpets to that One Direction excited bounce hop.
And can we just talk about Kate McKinnon’s Lorde for a second? With her face basically painted bright white, Kate nailed Lorde’s singing voice and bizarre performance habits. If Jimmy wasn’t so darned good at being Harry Styles, Kate would’ve been our favorite part of the sketch.
The Dec. 21 episode of SNL really took aim at celebrities. Besides the Christmas album sketch, which impersonated countless stars besides Harry and Lorde, the episode also featured the second incarnation of “Waking Up With Kimye.”
The spoof of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West was perfect, with the comedy show really zeroing in on Kanye’s anxiety over how the world perceives his fiancee.
It was great episode to end the year, and much of that had to do with Jimmy’s impression of Harry. What do you think of it, HollywoodLifers? Did SNL nail Harry? Watch the clip (Lorde and Harry come in at 2:14) below and let us know!
