Where’s Nostradamus when you need him? A major character was killed on the Dec. 12 midseason finale of The CW’s Reign — and we did NOT see this one coming. It looks like we’ll have quite a bit of mourning to do between now and the show’s Jan. 23 return!
That’s right, the unfortunate victim on Reign‘s chopping block turned out to be none other than Aylee (Jenessa Grant), easily the most adorable lady in waiting of all time.
Considering the episode was titled “Fated,” we figured something monumental would go down, but this seemed beyond the realm of possibilities. It gave us a real ‘no one is safe’ kind of feeling, and that’s not one we like to have.
Star Adelaide Kane did her best to prepare viewers for the tragic death, but as true TV junkies know, nothing can ever really prepare us to say goodbye to a fan-favorite character.
“Don’t wear mascara,” she warned E! Online before the episode aired. “Ice cream, bottle of wine, you’ll be good.”
As for how this death will affect the young queen, Adelaide said, “That loss will definitely taint the proceedings over the next few episodes. … It sobers her and the rest of her girls, and they become more adult and more in tune to the harsh realities of their world. [This death] adds a lot more weight to their decisions.”
